The Local Governance Network (LOGNet) is an umbrella organization of CSOs/NGOs working to promote effective decentralization and local governance through the promotion of citizens’ participation in decision making and development.

The Network (LOGNet) was set up in 2003 as an umbrella Network of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) working on local governance issues in Ghana.  In 2010, the Network was incorporated as a not-for-profit making entity limited by guarantee. LOGNet works to empower its members and all Ghanaian citizens to engage confidently and effectively in the decentralization and local governance process in Ghana.  The Network is made up of a group of organizations that seek to promote effective decentralization and local governance through the promotion of citizens’ participation in decision making and development. The formation of the Network was among others to address the inadequate networking among CSOs which were as diverse in the levels of capacity as in the level of influence. The idea was for all Network members to host and implement all the activities of the Network.

Co-ordinating this fledging Network proved to be very complex and time consuming.  After a review of the model, the Interim Steering Committee agreed to start looking for funds to recruit a full time dedicated co-ordinator to implement the work plan of the network. Since November 2010, GIZ has supported LOGNet to recruit the national Coordinator, build and strengthen the structures and offer institutional support to the Network.   Over the last years, the Network has been using a number of tools such as capacity building, dialogue, and research and media campaigns to help promote citizens participation in effective decentralization and local governance.
